Provincial Percheron Show
July 8, 9 & 10, 2004
Virden, MB

Virden, Manitoba played host to the Provincial Percheron Show the weekend of July 8, 9 & 10, 2004, with approximately 80 entries in attendance. There were rain showers throughout most of the day Thursday, but the line classes went on as scheduled. The remainder of the weekend was sunny and warm, and despite Thursday's rough start, the weekend was considered a success. The judge for the weekend was Gilles Cormier from Plum Coulee, MB. The results are as follows:

Senior and Grand Champion Stallion - Mount Joy Flash, a three year old stallion owned and bred by Mount Joy Percherons, Lyle & Kelly Farquhar of Birtle, Manitoba.

Reserve Champion Stallion - Hidden View Bow Dancer owned and shown by Lone Oak Percherons, Jim & Darlene Lane, Birtle, MB.

Junior Champion Mare and Reserve Grand Champion Mare - Elkview Kayla, bred, owned and shown by the Joseph family of Elkhorn, Manitoba

Reserve Junior Champion Mare - Lone Oak Becky Lou, a two year old filly bred by Lone Oak Percherons, owned by Darcy Strain and Rod Delaquis.

Senior Champion Mare and Grand Champion Mare - Rocky Bar Tess owned by Rocky Bar Ranch, Nick Denbrok and family, Esterhazy, SK.

Reserve Senior Champion Mare - Birdtail Valley Bonnie, owned and bred by Birdtail Valley Percherons, David and Gail Lane and family, Birtle, MB.

Champion Grade and Grand Champion Percheron of Show - Andy, an entry of Lone Oak Percherons.

This year's Virden Fair boasted record entries in the heavy horse division. There were 32 exhibitors from across Manitoba and Saskatchewan, providing some 160 draft horses in total. Some of the hitch classes saw as many as 21 entries. The competition was strong, with some of the top hitches from Manitoba and Saskatchewan in attendance. The numbers in attendance were larger due to upcoming Percheron Congress held in Brandon later on in July.
